Karachi-The great music maestro Alamgir, who considered pop music icon in Pakistan is seriously ill. Two of his kidneys have stopped working, a great admire of Alamgir, Huwa Huwa fame Hasan Jehangir, who is also a popular singer broke the news of Alamgir’s ailment in Pakistan and informed the media and Alamgir’s fan that he is seriously ill and receiving treatment in the United States (US).
The news of Alamgir’s ailment like and jungle fire in the music lovers and as well as other walks of live as despite a long time of gap Alamgir is still a house hold name among in Pakistan.
Born in 1954, to parents residing in East Pakistan. He left home at the age of 16 and came to Karachi in search of a new destiny. Singing day and night at Cafe D Khan, at Tariq Road, he amused the intellectual gatherings of the day, a meal a day he earned at the Cafe every day through his musical musings. Until one fine day he was spotted and told to visit PTV. There he came face to face with Khusbakht Aliya, who use to conduct a show for the youth titled Ferozan. Though he clicked, but Khushbakht had already chosen someone else in his place. But as luck would have it, he did not go empty handed from there. Sohail Rana spotted the boy and then there was no turning back for Alamgir.
He began by singing at Hill Park for the sake of a few bucks. The story took a major turn when Sohail Rana discovered his genius and offered to work with him. Alamgir's talent significantly helped the composer create the all time hit, Jiway Jiway, Pakistan. He started by singing western tunes. However, Alamgir established his genius and versatility by composing and vocalizing diversified folk tunes and semi classical styles. He first composed a number for the early 70s TV programme, Dam Dam Dee Dee. His work such as, Ye Sham Aur Tera Naam, Badal Bhi Aur Pani Bhi, Koi Bhi Rang Ho Tera, Iss Ko Naam Junoon Kaa Dedo, Paas Aakar Koi, Khayal Rakhna, Ja Ja Jani, Tum Meri Ankhain Ho, Sham Say Pehlay and countless other numbers are still hummed by the lowers of popular music

He was often seen to be roaming around Tariq Road in his red Sedan. Girls would flock around him and the youth of those days were crazy about him. Winning him fame and fortune were number likes ‘Albela Rahi’, ‘Pyar hai Zindagi ka Ghena’, ‘Kokokorina’, ‘Dekha Naa Thaa’, ‘Yeh Shaam aur Tera Naam’, ‘Mainey Tumharay Gagar Say’, ‘Neelay Neelay Amber Per’ and ‘Maaon ki Dua’.
Considered a king of the Pakistani pop Music, until the early 1990’s. Yet, he disappeared after the major stint and went towards the Western Hemisphere.
The hectic schedule, and pressure of moving from show to show, music studios to film recordings, and then to TV performances, simply sapped the energy out of him. He turned 40 and realized he had given so much to his fans, to his country, but had had not set aside any time for himself. That is when he moved to the USA and settled here, trying to find some space for his own life and family.
For the past 10-12 years he has been in the USA, shying away from public spotlight in Pakistan. Once or twice, was he hand picked by the media and interviewed but his solo performance was nowhere insight.
Now, is the time for us to act our part and support the person who is in need of support and probably some financial assistance as well. Lying unwell in a foreign land he might be looking out for support from his loved ones residing in Pakistan.
Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul- Ibad Khan and provincial cultural minister Saussi Palijo also took notice of ailment of famous singer Alamgir and issued directives for provide financial help regarding his treatment.
The music enthusiasts appealed to the Federal and Sindh Government that issuing statement for helping him is not enough as everybody knows the lethargic attitude of our bureaucratic system which took weeks and months long time to address the problem, while on the other hand Alamgir’ condition is stated to be very serious. His condition demands immediate action as far as the treatment of his ailment is concerned.
